For the first time in Florida history, 10 Tiger Bay Clubs from across Florida will join together to present a series of virtual forums on the presidential race and proposed state constitutional amendments.
The Central Florida, First Coast, Flagler, Gold Coast, Manatee, St. Johns, South County (Venice), Suncoast, Tampa and Volusia County Tiger Bay Clubs will present the forums free of charge as a public service. The Florida Tiger Bay Clubs Election Series 2020 forums will be live-streamed starting at noon on the Flagler Tiger Bay Club’s website at www.FlaglerTigerBayClub.com and also via Facebook Live on the Flagler Tiger Bay Club Facebook page. These forums are open to the public and registration is not required.
“Tiger Bay Clubs are nonpartisan, do not endorse candidates, nor do they take sides on issues. Our goal is to help educate voters in Flagler County and across Florida so they can make their best-informed voter decisions,” said Greg Davis, President of the Flagler Tiger Bay Club.
The online forums will kick off Friday, October 9th at noon with a panel discussion on Amendment 3, which would establish a top-two, regardless of party, open primary system in the primary elections, for state legislators, governor and cabinet. Confirmed panelists are former congressman Jason Altmire (pro), Florida State Senator and Republican Party of Florida Chairman Joe Gruters (against), Florida Democratic Party Chairman Terri Rizzo (against), and Glen Burhans, Jr. of All Voters Vote (pro).
Future forums in the series include Friday, October 16th at noon, panel discussion previewing the presidential election; and Friday, Oct. 23rd at noon with panel discussion of Amendment 2, which would establish a $15 statewide minimum wage: and Thursday, Nov. 12 at noon with a post-election analysis of the Florida election. Confirmed and Invited speakers include: U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz (CD-1,R) (confirmed); U.S. Congresswoman Val Demings (CD-10, D) (invited awaiting final conformation), attorney John Morgan (confirmed), a representative from the Florida Chamber of Commerce (confirmed awaiting specific panelist)
The first Tiger Bay Club in Florida was founded in Miami in 1964 by politically-minded people led by Stephen Ross, a local political consultant. Additional Tiger Bay Clubs have since formed throughout the state. All are non-partisan organizations that operate independently. The clubs do not endorse candidates or take sides in political campaigns.
